Advances in Gasification and Pyrolysis Research Using Various Biomass Feedstock
نویسنده
چکیده
This paper discusses recent advances in gasification and pyrolysis research utilizing various biomass wastes including cotton gin trash. Texas A&M University (TAMU) has recently filed a provisional patent for a modular fluidized bed gasification and pyrolysis system (Serial No. 61/302,001, February 2010). Discussions on the capabilities of both systems are explained. In addition, recent research accomplishments were identified. These research advances include the following: development of new control systems, gasification and pyrolysis of multiple feedstocks, the development of a modular system on a trailer and investigating other co-products of the systems. More interesting research studies have recently been focused on pyrolysis technologies for the production of biocrude oil from various biomass feedstock. Compounds present in the bio-oil were identified; various extraction, fractionation and catalytic procedures were outlined to generate transport fuels such as JP8, gasoline and diesel fractions. Finally, the concept on the development of mobile fast pyrolysis system for the sustainable production of bio-oil at the cotton gins was illustrated using geographic information system (GIS) mapping tools.

متن کاملSupply chain design under uncertainty for advanced biofuel production based on bio-oil gasification
An advanced biofuels supply chain is proposed to reduce biomass transportation costs and take advantage of the economics of scale for a gasification facility. In this supply chain, biomass is converted to bio-oil at widely distributed small-scale fast pyrolysis plants, and after bio-oil gasification, the syngas is upgraded to transportation fuels at a centralized biorefinery. A two-stage stocha...
متن کاملSpeciation of Sulfur in Biochar Produced from Pyrolysis and Gasification of Oak and Corn Stover
The effects of feedstock type and biomass conversion conditions on the speciation of sulfur in biochars are not well-known. In this study, the sulfur content and speciation in biochars generated from pyrolysis and gasification of oak and corn stover were determined. We found the primary determinant of the total sulfur content of biomass to be the feedstock from which the biochar is generated, w...

Materials with different C/O ratios and volatile matter content (E.grandis and four pyrolysis chars of E.grandis) were used as feedstock during SCWG experiments at 450 °C and 27 MPa. Experimental gas yields and gasification efficiencies were compared to calculated thermodynamic equilibrium results to determine the effect of O/C ratio and volatile matter content on the experimental and thermodyn...
متن کاملContemporary issues in thermal gasification of biomass and its application to electricity and fuel production
Gasification technology has been investigated to effectively and economically convert lowvalue and highly distributed solid biomass to a uniform gaseous mixture mainly including hydrogen (H2), carbon monoxide (CO), methane (CH4) and carbon dioxide (CO2). This gaseous mixture can be further used as an industrial feedstock for heat and power generation, H2 production and synthesis of liquid fuels...
